Disruption of the internet has serious consequences on the economy, costing PKR 940 million to telecom companies.
This translates to PKR 329 million in losses to the national exchequer. This estimate is based on the fact that
the previous year, telecommunication companies collected approximately PKR 572 billion from cellular services.
For instance, the internet shutdown in May 2023 cost the country a whopping $2 million a day, as stated by the Pakistan Freelancers Association.
Software houses and all the other entities involved in the IT sector providing services to international clients faced reputation
damage due to such internet disruption. Keeping all that in view, the government has highlighted the need for the continuation of
internet services throughout the year.
