Islamabad: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has been given authority
by the government to approve housing schemes. This has been a significant development from
the newly elected Punjab Government. Previously, the LDA was removed from the authority to
approve private housing societies. The government also directed the concerned departments
to handover the record regarding private housing schemes, and land-use conversion in the
Districts of Kasur, Nankana Sahib, and Sheikhupura to the LDA.

According to the sources, the LDA has once again gained the power to approve or disapprove housing
schemes and also deal with land-use conversion cases. These approval powers were taken away by the
previous government through an ordinance and allowed Deputy Commissioners to carry on with the
approvals and pertaining matters.
The matter was presented in the 35th meeting of the newly formed provincial cabinet.
It was decided in the meeting that the LDA is given back its authority to approve private housing societies.
The new development is being seen by many as a positive development and the LDA
is indeed the most concerned platform for providing approvals to the housing schemes.
